Film photography, from Japan
FilmFocus is a Japanese website about film photography. We cover news from the film world for readers in Japan, keep a directory of the labs that develop film here, and run an annual survey of the people who still shoot it. The site is written in Japanese; this page and the articles below are in English.
The English articles are machine translations of our Japanese originals, made with AI. Each one links back to the original.
Film Photography Survey
Japan's largest public survey of film photographers
Since 2024 we have asked film photographers in Japan what they shoot, where they get it developed and what they spend. The first two years drew more than 2,000 responses, and the results have been covered by PetaPixel, Kosmo Foto and others. The 2026 survey runs from November 30 to December 31, and for the first time it is open to film photographers outside Japan too, with PetaPixel as our Global Media Partner.
Film labs in Japan
Our directory lists 157 labs across Japan that develop and scan film, with their prices, turnaround times and whether they take film by mail. It is in Japanese, but your browser's translate feature handles it well if you are looking for a lab while traveling.
